Unlocking the Equation: How "Girl Math" Works in Hiring a Personal Stylist

In the ever-changing world of fashion, personal style is unique to every individual.

Unique to each individual is also how we come to terms with spending our hard-earned money on clothing to shape our style.

Let’s talk about "Girl Math" and explore why it makes perfect sense when it comes to hiring a personal stylist.

Click Happy - When the Online Shopping Cart Overflows

On my to-do list this week was a trip to the mall to do some returns & exchanges.

Now, when it comes to online shopping, I have a habit of loading up my cart with a bit more than necessary. I toss things in as I spot them, then play a 24-48 hour waiting game before hitting the purchase button.

By the time I'm punching in my CVV (all the other details are already cozy in my computer's memory), I've usually ditched a couple of items. However, even then I tend to purchase a couple of extra items leading to some hard decisions when my package arrives at my doorstep.

Let’s Go To The Mall - Returns Edition

Off to the mall I went, armed with returns and the possibility of exchanges.

Packed up all my stuff, decided to grab a homemade coffee to-go  (saving me a cool $5.75 by snubbing Starbucks), realized that I serendipitously had some cash in my wallet, and marched into the mall.

The mission? Return items and, just maybe, grab a couple of killer fall wardrobe essentials. After all, I had some cash in hand – the kind of "free money" that makes a shopping spree feel like destiny, right?

No Tears for the Frayed Sweater

First stop- Mango. I was hoping to return a sweater that unfortunately had a frayed hem around the collar ( reminder to always check new clothes for fraying!).

They graciously agreed to exchange the item, but that’s not even the best of it.

Mango started their Black Friday early and they had a killer 40% off deal on everything in the store.

While picking out a new sweater, I ended up with a store credit of $36.45. Score! I snagged a rad grey cardigan with that credit, and my grand total came to just $5.35. Slapped down some cash, and boom, walked out feeling like I just got two freebies.

She Works Hard For Her Money

Heading to Zara for more returns, I ventured further into the mall. Arriving at the cash counter, I had nothing in hand to purchase, just a bag carrying two items for return. The return process went smoothly, a quick scan of my QR code on the Zara app, and voila! I found myself with an extra $134 and some change.

With this unexpected cash boost, I now had the perfect excuse to treat myself to a couple of essential pieces at Aritzia.

Exiting the mall, I felt guilt-free, as if I hadn't spent a dime, yet carrying a bag full of clothes. And hey, it was a reusable bag, earning me an extra $0.50 for skipping the purchase of a paper bag at any cash counter.

Girl Math & Working with a Personal Stylist

So, let’s apply the girl math mindset to hiring a personal stylist. I have decoded the concept into a couple of easy points.

Girl Math: Why Hire a Personal Stylist?

  1. Time is Money: Girl Math recognizes the scarcity of time and the importance of efficiency. A personal stylist simplifies the task of discovering the ideal outfit, preserving your valuable time.

Gone are the days of spending time trying on multiple outfits, resulting in being late for work or an event. Time formerly wasted transforms into leisurely drive-in breakfasts and coffees, along with unnecessary clothing purchases due to a lack of confidence in your existing wardrobe.

No more hurried exits or acquiring items you don't truly need. Allow a stylist to give you back your time!

  2. Invest in Quality: A stylist knows what fabrics are going to last through several washes and understands when it's worthwhile to invest in a luxury brand. Let a stylist guide you into taking care of your wardrobe pieces that will last you years, not months.. A good stylist will guide you to spend more wisely, ensuring you spend less over time.

  3. No More Overpacking and “I-Have-Nothing-To-Wear” Panic: Expert styling services will help you curate capsule wardrobes for any events and destination. Going on a destination wedding and need some help putting together your looks? A stylist can help you pack precisely what you need.

No more over packing and stuffing your suitcase with 3 times the outfits “just-in-case”. This leads to paying for additional luggage and lugging around too much while you travel and zero clarity on what to actually wear. The stylist will make sure you can focus on fun and looking your best.

  4. Budget-Friendly Solutions: Contrary to the misconception that personal stylists are exclusively for the elite, embracing 'Girl Math' showcases the cost-effectiveness of hiring a stylist. Beyond fashion, a personal stylist becomes your strategic partner in making wardrobe investments that pay off. They guide you to maximize the versatility of each piece in your closet, ensuring you not only look great but also make savvy choices that save you money in the long run.

Save time, stride into your closet with confidence, and breeze through event prep and travel effortlessly. It's time to make a stylish connection – let the journey with your stylist begin!
